God works exactly according to His Word, and it does not hinder Him that almost every person or believer on earth today disagrees with Him. His explicit plan of salvation for the people of the Millennial Peace Kingdom awaits.
^ Physical wars, famines, earthquakes, all must have happened (cf. Mat. 24:6-7).
Wars are (/have been), at their deepest, spiritual wars (Eph. 6:12).

¤ During the 42 months of the greater tribulation the beast with the seven heads will speak great words and blasphemies against God {Rev. 13:5(-6), 4a and 4b§1317, 7b§67₁14}.
At their beginning the United States will become its seventh head (cf. 7b§67₁14, Rev. 12:13).
¤ At the same time the United States will get involved in persecuting believers. These are specifically the Messianic believers who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus {7d§67₁14, Rev. 12:17 (12b---17); 14:12 (9-13)}.
Two of them are the witnesses who preach and prophesy in Jerusalem. The other ones are the 144,000 Israelites, who meet them and become with their help followers of the Lord Jesus (7b§67₁14, Rev. 11:1-6).
¤ The two witnesses will preach against the mark of the beast, which will be the papal payment card, and which will be introduced throughout the world under the auspices of the United States (8d§89₁156, mark of the beast).
That's one of the reasons why the president will not like them. However, the witnesses will strike with plagues at anyone who tries to stop them. It will make all nations increasingly angry (Rev. 11:5-6).
¤ After coming to faith the 144,000 will go around the world to evangelize and warn against the mark of the beast. The mark of the beast means eternal death for everyone who takes it (!) (Rev. 14:9-13), Rev. 14:11, <“…. And the smoke of their torment rises forever and ever. Day and night there is no rest for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name. ….”>
They will be easy targets for Satan and his powers. Though, it does not bother them (Rev. 14:13).
